SM5420C is a miniature SO-8 packaged absolute pressure sensor launched by Silicon Microstructures, Inc. (SMI), mainly targeting applications in automotive tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), engine control, and industrial instrumentation [1] [3-4]. This product is based on the SM5108 wafer technology and utilizes MEMS piezoresistive technology. It supports three full-scale specifications: 15 psi, 30 psi, and 100 psi, featuring high precision and adaptability to harsh environments [2].
The sensor is available in ported or vented configurations, with an optimized interface design to minimize the risk of pressure pulse impact. It offers standard gel-protected and gel-free custom versions to meet different application requirements [2-3]. The ceramic substrate is suitable for mass production and is compatible with PCB integration and O-ring installation [1-2]. The product operates at 5V, with a standard operating temperature range of 0-70°C, and some models extend to -40°C to +125°C. The output signal is based on the best linear fit algorithm at 25°C [2]. It has passed AEC-Q100 automotive certification and RoHS compliance verification, and is widely used in automated production lines and high-reliability industrial environments.
The SM5420 can be selected with a ported configuration or a vented configuration, allowing air to pass through the port or the positive positioning of the pressure source for sensing general environmental pressure or used together with an O-ring seal. The port direction is chosen to minimize the chance of direct pressure pulse impact on the pressure wafer's front surface due to long-term exposure to harsh environments. The device comes with gel as standard. For large orders requiring maximum stability, such as in air pressure stations and meteorological stations, gel-free versions are available.
